Nountourists
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Tourism is travel for recreational, leisure or business purposes. The World Tourism Organization defines tourists as people who "travel to and stay in places outside their usual environment for more than twenty-four (24) hours and not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes not related to the exercise of an activity remunerated from within the place visited". Tourism has become a popular global leisure activity. In 2008, there were over 922 million international tourist arrivals, with a growth of 1.9% as compared to 2007. International tourism receipts grew to US$944 billion (euro 642 billion) in 2008, corresponding to an increase in real terms of 1.8%. As a result of the Late-2000s recession, international travel demand suffered a strong slowdown beginning in June 2008, with growth in international tourism arrivals worldwide falling to 2% during the boreal summer months, and this negative trend intensified as international tourist arrivals fell by 8% during the first four months of 2009. Thereafter this declining trend was exacerbated in some regions due to the outbreak of the influenza AH1N1 virus. Tourism is vital for many countries, such as Egypt, Greece and Thailand, and many island nations, such as The Bahamas, Fiji, Maldives and the Seychelles, due to the large intake of money for businesses with their goods and services and the opportunity for employment in the service industries associated with tourism. These service industries include transportation services, such as airlines, cruise ships and taxis, hospitality services, such as accommodations, including hotels and resorts, and entertainment venues, such as amusement parks, casinos, shopping malls, various music venues and the theatre. Many tourists rely on the reputation of travel agency when they want to buy packages to go on holiday. Aside from this, I believe there are many other factors that influence tourists' choice of travel agency. What are the other factors? What are the other reasons for them to pick a travel agency of their choice? Asked by Mundane - Fri Sep 18 11:24:35 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Personally, I don't use a travel agency at all now that air tickets are all issued as e-tickets, but if I did it would be on the same basis as the websites I use for booking on my own. Proven reliability is the key thing for me - then ease of use. In a manned tourist agency, the people you're dealing with are a factor. For a while a few years ago there were some flights where it wasn't possible to get e-tickets. In that case, I would print out the itinerary and go to one of the local agencies to book and print tickets rather than having them mailed to me here in Italy. In that case, I used a particular agent and when she moved I changed to the agency where she was. Good customer service still means something - it's just hard to find. Q. In the last 6 months, 58 Western tourists and journalists were kidnapped. Asked by breakdance - Wed Aug 26 11:08:39 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. Keep in mind that there are currently two wars going on in the Middle East- that Westerners should be kidnapped occasionally is less than surprising. One must also keep in mind that compared to some Western countries, the Middle East has a surprisingly low number of kidnappings- how many kidnappings have there been in the Eastern US alone in the past six months?
