Region is most commonly a geographical term that is used in various ways among the different branches of geography. In general, a region is a medium-scale area of land or water, smaller than the whole areas of interest (which could be, for example, the world, a nation, a river basin, mountain range, and so on), and larger than a specific site. A region may be seen as a collection of smaller units (as in "the New England states") or as one part of a larger whole (as in "the New England region of the United States"). Regions can be defined by physical characteristics, human characteristics, and functional characteristics.

As a way of describing spatial areas, the concept of regions is important and widely used among the many branches of geography, each of which can describe areas in regional terms. For example, ecoregion is a term used in environmental geography, cultural region in cultural geography, bioregion in biogeography, and so on. The field of geography that studies regions themselves is called regional geography.

Experience for pilot job in regional airlines?
Q. All regional airlines require atleast 500-600 hrs of experience in order to apply for a pilot job. My question is- how can one have so much experience unless he is employed previously? Please advice on how can i build my experience after getting my Commercial pilot license. Do any of you have personal experience on this? Thanks

A. There are many ways. You can be a CFI and instruct people. There are some small cargo firms that fly Cessna 206's and similar aircraft. And you must have at least 250 hours for a Commercial certificate.

Japanese regional airline pilot to US based regional pilot?
Q. I'm about to join a regional airline as a pilot here in Japan, but my ultimate goal is to fly for a carrier based in the US(regional or domestic preferred). Would this be possible as long as I log in the hours? And yes, I have US citizenship.

A. From what I understand there is a real pilot shortage crisis looming, especially in North America. Students are being picked up by major airlines with hardly 200 hours because they want to reserve them when they finally get their ATP. If you have US Citizenship, I see no reason why it would not be possible. You could even go for a small US based regional airline right now, but perhaps the best would be to log in the time in Japan, get as many type ratings you can get and than go strait to a legacy airline such as AA, Delta, Northwest, Continental or United. How did you end up in Japan anyways? I'd be interested to know...

Where can I found out about regional British food and traditional recipes?
Q. I'm looking for information about traditional British food like Lancashire Hotpot. I also want to find out about more obscure regional dishes - where they come from, how they are made, their history etc.
